This year’s World Series between the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks was one of the least watched World Series in recent time. The Rangers were favored to win and took it home in 5 games to get their first World Series in the team’s history.

This wasn’t the most entertaining World Series we’ve seen. The series was over quickly, but the Rangers and Diamondbacks were a terrific matchup. Most people didn’t really expect either team to be there. The pitching comparisons were really close and the hitting comparisons were really close. Though they lost in 5 games, the Diamondbacks were in these games. The Rangers only outscored the Diamondbacks by a score of 26-22 in this series. The Rangers only had two players hitting well in Seager and Semien (after Garcia went down) who contributed 14 RBIs combined. The rest of this Rangers lineup was not on fire by any means, but they got the job done. The same point can be made for the Diamondbacks lineup. Pham played really well this series going 8-19, but the rest of the lineup was average at best. As far as pitching goes, I thought Arizona looked better overall. Merrill Kelly pitched an absolute gem in game 2, meanwhile Mantiply, Gallen and Pfaadt threw the ball well. The Rangers pitching didn’t look great. They relied more on the bullpen who didn’t pitch great, except for Jose Leclerc who pitched 3.1 scoreless innings.

The difference in this series was MVP Corey Seager. He hit 3 homeruns in big spots and contributed 6 RBIs, and those home runs are what made the difference. He had 3 himself, and the Diamondbacks had 3 as a team.
