2024 World Series Prediction

If there is anything the 2023 season taught us, it's to expect the unexpected, but baseball is an unpredictable sport. So I won't follow that philosophy and instead just go off numbers and experience. The Rangers beat the best teams in the American League in the playoffs by sweeping the Rays and the 1st place Orioles and then beating the Astros in seven games before winning the World Series. They had one of the highest payrolls in the league but I don’t think many people expected them to go all the way, especially when they matched up against these teams. The Diamondbacks barely finished over .500 and pretty much did the same thing the Rangers did in the playoffs, except for winning it all obviously. They swept the Brewers and the 1st place Dodgers, then somehow managed to knock off the red hot Phillies in seven games before ultimately losing in the World Series. Most people would agree that they came out of nowhere. Both the Rangers and Diamondbacks were among the bottom two wildcard teams in their leagues and somehow got red hot and carved their names into the history books, so who’s to say this situation can’t happen again? It all depends on who has the hot hand come playoff time. Only six teams from each league make it in, and four of those teams have to battle it out in the Wild Card series.

I think the teams getting into the playoffs from the American League will be the Rays, Twins, Astros, Rangers, Orioles, and Yankees. The same teams as last year, except I think the Yankees make big offseason moves and manage to get a Wild Card spot. The Rays will be the #1 seed, but their lack of fan support will hurt their momentum. The Twins will not win another playoff series. The Rangers and Yankees will be eliminated before the ALCS. The Astros and the Orioles will battle it out in the ALCS, and the Astros will go to the World Series.

The six National League teams getting into the playoffs will be the Braves, Brewers, Dodgers, Giants, Padres, and Phillies. The Padres barely sneak into the Wild Card and lose to the Brewers. The Giants somehow knock off the Phillies in the Wild Card, but lose to the Dodgers in the NLDS. The Braves take the #1 seed and beat the Brewers in the NLDS, but they will lose in the NLCS to the Dodgers.

This leaves us a 2017 World Series rematch between the Astros and the Dodgers, and I think the Dodgers win in 6 games and prove to the world that they can win a World Series in a year that isn’t shortened by covid.
